Return of the Nasty Party

Posted by – April 20, 2010

We had been wondering how long the Tories’ huggable image was going to last, and it took  Lib Dem boy-wonder Nick Clegg to flush them out.  The Tories are still being hit badly in the polls by the implausible rise in popularity of the Lib Dem leader, whose performance in the first of the televised leaders’ debates last week has propelled the LDs into first or second place in many polls.  And Labour, despite coming third in many opinion polls, are duly on course to take the largest number of seats on May 6.

Realising that their ‘we are frightfully nice really’ strategy has fooled no-one, the Tories have reverted to plan B. That is, blind panic, and a retrenchment into the sort of hard-line conservatism that might make even Norman Tebbit say ‘ooh, that’s a bit harsh’.

In the Tories’ latest poster, Cameron is shown in front of a studio audience, Jeremy Kyle style, with his sleeves rolled up, next to a banner headline proclaiming:

Tank the Tories respectfully suggests a few more slogans for the series. Suggesters of more flippant ideas, such as ‘Let’s push an old lady in a puddle!’, and ‘Let’s throw a kitten in the canal!’, have been severely dealt with.
